There is an excellent sloka in sanskrit with mnemonics for memorizing the list easily. It goes like this...
Ma Dwayam (2 start with Ma)
Bha Dwayam (2 start with Bha)
Chaiva Bra Trayam (3 start with Brah)
Va Chatushtayam (4 start with Va
Anapalingakooska ni puranani prudhakh prudhakh
( A, Na, Pa, Lin, Ga, Koo, Ska are the rest...)

Great article. The list is great, could you also add, if possible, some info on what each of the 18 are.
